Do you carry grief and sorrow in your heart? Perhaps this picture will help console you.

A sweet friend and colleague has died suddenly.
She left behind a legacy of joy and an indomitable spirit. To console the family, this card was painted.
Time to complete it was short so, it is full of the imperfections of a quick job. Sketching and painting it was a peaceful process. Sometimes expressing one’s self through art is a way of processing the loss of someone.

This watercolor was copied from the Disposition of Jesus Christ from the Cross (detail), fresco by Pietro Lorenzetti (1280-1348); circa 1320; Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, lower church, Assisi, Italy.
I love this fresco because of the emotion with which Mary is pressing her head to her son’s. You can see the quivering of her face near her nose and mouth.
While the scene is very so much full of grief, it is in the way consoling because it shows another fellow human, revered through the centuries, suffering as well.
Thanks for looking at this picture, reading this post. If you are suffering any grief or loss, I hope it has helped you.
Have a great weekend!
